Moth & moon.

Overview.

A shoulder-spanning death's-head moth crowned by a crescent moon — drawn for a client who works nights and wanted armour for it. The wings mirror the scapulae so the piece opens when she moves.

CHALLENGE

Backs are rarely symmetrical, but ornamental work must read as if they are. Dorian mapped both scapulae independently, then reconciled the halves in the final drawing.

APPROACH

Session one laid the mirror framework; session two packed the wings and moon. The client reports strangers stop her to ask about it weekly.
